Acceptable Use Policy
Last updated: 25 October 2026
Klyvelo is shared by many shops, and some of it (like the WhatsApp number we send from) only works if everyone plays fair. These are the rules. They form part of our Terms of Service and apply to you, your staff and anyone using your account.
1. Messages to customers
- Only send marketing messages (offers, specials, reminders to come back) to customers who opted in to them. A receipt or points update may go to a customer who asked for it.
- Honour every opt-out. When a customer replies STOP or asks you to stop, do not message them again, and do not add them back without fresh consent.
- No spam: no bought, borrowed or scraped number lists, no messages to people who never gave you their number, and no flood of messages that people would reasonably find too many.
- Do not try to get round Klyvelo's message and e-mail limits, for example by splitting one business across accounts.
- Say who you are. Every message must be clearly from your shop. Do not pretend to be another business, a bank, a government body or Klyvelo.
- Be honest. No misleading offers, fake prizes, chain messages, or messages that pressure or frighten people.
- Do not ask customers for passwords, PINs, card numbers or ID numbers in a message.
- Follow WhatsApp's Business Messaging Policy and Commerce Policy. On WhatsApp, do not promote or sell alcohol, tobacco or vaping products, medicines, weapons, gambling, adult products, or anything else those policies do not allow. You may still sell lawful goods at your counter and ring them up in Klyvelo.
2. Illegal goods and trade
You must not use Klyvelo to sell, record or promote:
- goods or services that are illegal in South Africa or where you trade, including stolen or counterfeit goods, unlicensed medicines, and illegal drugs;
- goods you need a licence or permit to sell, unless you have it (for example liquor);
- age-restricted goods to someone under the legal age;
- firearms, ammunition or explosives, unless you are licensed to deal in them;
- unlicensed gambling, lotteries or competitions;
- anything to launder money, finance crime or evade tax, such as recording sales that did not happen or hiding ones that did.
3. Abuse of the service and of people
- Do not put personal information into Klyvelo that you have no lawful reason to hold, or use it for anything your customers or staff did not expect.
- Do not use Klyvelo to harass, threaten, discriminate against or deceive anyone, including your staff and our support team.
- Do not upload malware or content that is unlawful, hateful or infringes someone else's rights.
- Do not overload or disrupt the service, for example with automated requests far beyond normal use of a shop.
- Do not open several accounts to get round the Free plan's limits or a suspension.
- Do not share logins or PINs between people. Each person has their own.
4. Security testing
- Do not try to get into another shop's data, our systems, or parts of the service you are not meant to reach.
- Do not scan, probe or test Klyvelo for weaknesses, or try to get round its limits, without our written permission first.
- Do not copy, decompile or take apart the app or the hub, except as far as the law allows.
- Found a weakness by accident? Please tell us at our help address and keep it to yourself until we have fixed it. We will not take action against anyone who reports one in good faith, does not use it to reach other people's data and gives us a fair chance to fix it.
5. Reselling
- Your account is for your own business and its stores. You may not resell, rent out, share or sub-license Klyvelo to another business, or run other businesses on your account, without our written agreement.
- Your bookkeeper, accountant or an IT person may help you with your account, using a login you give them for that.
- Klyvelo's independent sales representatives work under their own agreement with us. They cannot change a price, a plan or these rules.
- Do not use the Klyvelo name or logo to suggest that we endorse your business, apart from saying that you use Klyvelo.
6. If the rules are broken
- We may refuse or hold back a message, pause messaging, remove content, or suspend part or all of an account, as set out in section 19 of the Terms. Where we can, we tell you first and give you a chance to put it right.
- We may report unlawful activity to the authorities and co-operate with lawful requests.
- Meta, Xero, Yoco or Paystack may also act under their own rules, and we cannot overrule them.
Seen something that breaks these rules? Tell us at our help address.
